Panel Discussion on the Hill

African Americans and Asset Building:
How to Bridge the Homeownership
and Wealth Gap

In recognition of Homeownership Month, the CBCF's With Ownership Wealth program (WOW) will be holding a special panel entitled African Americans and Asset Building: How to Bridge the Homeownership and Wealth Gap.

Asset development, along with income, consumption and employment, is a key indicator of economic well being. Asset-building strategies, particularly financial literacy, homeownership and small business development, although not automatic, have the potential to also produce benefits not just for individuals, but also for communities. The purpose of the panel is to discuss the current economic trends, it impact on Minority asset development, the impact of the housing bubble bursting and foreclosure rates rising, and raise awareness about various strategies and resources nonprofts can use to assist minorities in developing wealth during these economic times.

The session is scheduled to be held on Capitol Hill, Library of Congress, Madison Building. Mumford Room, LM-649 Room. The panel is designed to discuss the evergrowing homeownership and wealth gap between African Americans and Whites and how we can close these gaps.
