CBCF Katrina Relief Fund

On September 21, 2005, CBCF officially announced the launch of the CBCF Katrina Relief Fund. To date the Foundation has raised an estimated $350,000 for the fund through contributions and matching pledges made by corporations that support CBCF’s mission. The CBCF plans to continue to accept donations for the relief fund through the end of 2005. CBCF will continue to encourage its corporate partners to contribute to the matching gift fund initiated by General Mills’ contribution of $100,000. The goal is to raise $1 million.

A Katrina Relief Committee made up of CBCF board members will be appointed to oversee the disbursement of donated funds. Part of the role of CBCF’s Katrina Relief Committee will be to dispense funds to entities that directly deliver services and tangible needs to people who are attempting to move back into and resurrect their neighborhoods.

Also, the CBCF serves as part of a campaign to rebuild hurricane-affected areas. ReBuild Hope NOW is a coalition of black organizations that have joined together to help bring aid directly to those on the ground who are caring for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Thanks for your support,

Dr. Don I. Tharpe
President
