The Leadership Institute for Public Service is the vehicle through which the CBCF prepares the next generation to take its rightful place in community service and policy development arenas. The goal of the Institute is to increase the pool of Black leaders in community-based programs and public service careers. CBCF selects and engages nearly 1,000 students and young professionals in intense, focused environments each year, during which they are taught critical thinking and leadership skills. They receive this advanced training through the scholarship, internship and fellowship programs. CBCF's Leadership Institute offers educational and leadership development programs to individuals ranging from junior high school students to young adults, 40-and-under. Hallmarks of the Leadership Institute include: the Congressional Fellows Program; the Louis Stokes Urban Health Policy Fellows Program; the CBCF Leadership Network of Alumni; the Congressional Internship Program; the CBCF Emerging Leaders Series; Emerging Leaders Public Service Seminar; Vivien Thomas Scholarship for Medical Science and Research; and the CBCF Congressional Classrooms Program. Participants are provided with opportunities to learn the innerworkings of Congress, explore public service and public policy careers, discuss current events and policy initiatives, and gain a close-up view of leadership at its very best. |
