2003 Annual Legislative Conference

(Washington, DC) The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. announces its 32nd Annual Legislative Conference (ALC), to be held September 24-27, 2003 at the New Washington Convention Center.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Collective Leadership – Challenging A Bold New World.” ALC, attended by more than 30,000 individuals from across the country, is widely recognized for providing a national forum for examining strategies and viable solutions to public policy issues facing African Americans.

“This year’s conference will be the most innovative in recent times. The theme for our national Town Hall Meeting is Voter Mobilization: Preserving Our Legacy – Strengthening our Base. It will feature dozens of nationally-recognized and respected elected officials, celebrities, and community activists.” Said ALC Chair Rep. Juanita Millender McDonald.

CBCF Chairman William J. Jefferson urged Americans of all good will to get involved with this year’s event. As a developer of strategic partnerships, the CBCF seeks to harness the collective resources and marshal the collective power of national, regional, and local organizations in order to make a political and economic impact” he said.

This exceptional four-day conference includes issue forums, workshops, and Congressional Braintrusts convened by members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). The Conference hosts a number of major events, including the Annual Awards Dinner, Prayer Breakfast, and the CBC Spouses Annual Fashion Shows and Benefit Concert.

CBCF president Weldon J. Rougeau said, “ For more than 30 years the ALC has provided a national forum for public policy issues facing African Americans and other minorities. It is one wa CBCF works to promote positive and sustainable change in the African American community and in the African Diaspora.”

Funds raised by the ALC contribute a major percentage of the financial support necessary for the CBCF and its Congressional Fellows and Internship Programs, the CBC Spouses Educational Scholarships, public policy research projects and publications.
