WASHINGTON—A. Shuanise Washington, president and chief executive officer of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Incorporated (CBCF), today released the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm Loretta Lynch as the next Attorney General.
“We congratulate U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch for her long awaited confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Ms. Lynch, is now the first African-American female to serve as the U.S. Attorney General and only the second United States attorney appointed directly to attorney general in our nation’s history.
“Lynch, along with her predecessor, Attorney General Eric Holder, represent the progress our nation has made in the last 50 years.
“The CBCF looks forward to her service and efforts to tackle the many civil and criminal justice issues that our nation grapples with today.
“We celebrate this historic achievement with Ms. Lynch, and with the next generation of women and African-American leaders who now believe they can follow in her footsteps.”
