WASHINGTON—A. Shuanise Washington, president and CEO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Incorporated (CBCF), released the following statement on the passing of Elie Wiesel, noted Holocaust survivor, human rights activist and Nobel Prize laureate in World Peace.
“The CBCF is deeply saddened by the passing of Elie Wiesel, a lifetime humanitarian, who leveraged his international stature for the betterment of others. He ensured that the lessons of the Holocaust and other despicable acts of cruelty throughout the world will not be forgotten.
“An unyielding voice for humanity, Wiesel once said ‘sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Whenever men or women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must—at that moment—become the center of the universe.’
“The CBCF honors Elie Wiesel for his determination to eradicate human rights violations. We are inspired by his faith, hope and integrity. A man of great moral character, Wiesel will be remembered for his long road of sacrifice in pursuit of equality, freedom and world peace.”
