CBCF Statement on the Passing of Eddie N. Williams

WASHINGTON— A. Shuanise Washington, president and CEO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Incorporated (CBCF), released the following statement on the passing of Eddie N. Williams, President of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies from 1972 – 2004.

“The CBCF is saddened to learn of the passing of Eddie N. Williams. A trailblazer and scholar, Mr. Williams built the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies into a political thought and research establishment that today continues to serve as a critical policy resource to some of the nation’s most formidable decision makers.

“A lifelong advocate of equality and justice for all, Williams used his platform at the Joint Center to address the pressing and economic needs of black Americans, and as a conduit to raise the visibility and voices of thought leaders. Williams punctuated activism with relevant research that demonstrated how public policy affected the lives of African Americans and other people of color.

“His efforts will continue to inspire and expand the awareness of legislative power to a new generation of scholars, activists and grassroots-led organizations.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Williams family, friends and colleagues who loved him, respected his vision and carry on his legacy.”
