The nonprofit organization hopes to raise $100,000 for programs that positively impact the African-American community

WASHINGTON—The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Incorporated (CBCF) today announced its participation in #GivingTuesday on December 2, 2014. #GivingTuesday is a global movement dedicated to giving.

“In 2014, the CBCF accomplished much to advance the African-American community. But we must continue to strive to ensure that one remarkable year develops into a lifetime commitment of engagement,” said A. Shuanise Washington, president and CEO of the CBCF. “As we head into the giving season, we ask that individuals consider supporting the CBCF on Dec. 2 for #GivingTuesday.”

Donations to the CBCF directly impact the Foundation’s efforts to improve the socioeconomic circumstances of African Americans and other underserved communities. The CBCF aims to advance its mission in several ways: by increasing the number of students in its Emerging Leaders U.S.-China Study Abroad Program from 20 to 100; expanding professional development opportunities for emerging leaders by placing interns in the offices of all 535 members of Congress; and educating the public about policy issues impacting the black community through the CBCF Center for Policy Analysis and Research (CPAR), Avoice virtual library, Annual Legislative Conference, and more. #GivingTuesday contributions will support these efforts.

Individuals can donate to the CBCF through various methods: make an online contribution atgivingtuesday.cbcfinc.org; use a smartphone to make a $10 donation by texting “CBCF” to 20222 (standard text messaging and data rates may apply); or mail a check in any amount to the CBCF at 1720 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20036.

Donors are encouraged to announce their support using the hashtag, #GivingStartsWithYou throughout their social media platforms.
