Alumni Network

Since 1985, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) has cultivated a powerful network of over 10,000 Leadership Institute alumni who now serve as changemakers across policy, the U.S. Congress, industry, and beyond. In response to this growing legacy, the Alumni Network Council (ANC) was established as a donation-based network dedicated to strengthening the CBCF’s impact.

Today, the Alumni Network Council (ANC) is a community of former LI interns, fellows, and scholarship recipients dedicated to fostering connections, driving growth, promoting LI’s mission, and supporting the CBCF as a whole.

Walmart Emerging Leaders
“Becoming a Life Member of the CBCF Alumni Network was an easy decision for me because I’m living proof of the impact this organization has. As a 2012 Emerging Leaders intern placed in the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of International Affairs, my CBCF experience completely shifted the trajectory of my career and expanded what I believed was possible. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to live and work around the world, lead major global strategy projects, and launch my own consultancy, Lavi Rèv, which includes the Dream Grant supporting the next generation of changemakers. I deeply believe in CBCF’s mission to mentor, empower, and uplift Black leaders, and I’m committed to giving back to the community that helped shape me.”

Tylik McMillan
Youth Coalitions Director, Democratic National Committee | Summer 2019 Intern | 2024 L10 Awardee
Being part of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Leadership Institute was transformative to my development and was a defining chapter of my life, one that continues to influence the work I do each and every day. CBCF reinforced and grounded my commitment to using my voice and platform to advocate for those most marginalized and underrepresented through strategy and policy. It fueled and mended my passion for public service and social justice. It was an honor of a lifetime to be part of such a prestigious program, and I am forever grateful for the opportunities it provided me to grow, learn, and lead. I am grateful for the Summer 2019 cohort who are each doing groundbreaking things in their field. Their friendship and Black excellence helped push me even more.

Advisor, The White House | 2018–2020 Fellow | 2024 L10 Awardee
The CBCF institute changed my life and opened doors that I didn’t even know existed. The institute has positioned and prepared me for leadership in the nation’s foremost institutions while also teaching me how to hold onto who I am as a Black American. CBCF is the world’s premier leadership institution for Black youth and I’m proud to call myself an alumnus.

N. Scott Phillips
Delegate, Maryland General Assembly | 1989 Fellow | 2025 L10 Awardee
As a 1989 CBCF Fellow, I was afforded the opportunity to work on the House Armed Services Committee. It became the catalyst for my interest in Minority Business Enterprise. At that time minority participation in Defense contracts was less than 2%. My experience was influenced by Congressmen Ron Dellums and Kweisi Mfume both CBC members who inspired me to ask hard questions of congressional staff, military officers and corporate executives. The experience prepared me to become the Director of IBM’s Nunn-Perry Award winning Federal Small and Minority Business Program. CBCF LI informed, inspired, and ignited a spark that has been the cornerstone of my life’s work as an advocate for black wealth creation and minority business enterprise development. I am forever grateful to the CBCF.
