Area of Discipline: Foreign Policy

Joseph Coleman is a Louisiana native, born and raised in the small but mighty city of Alexandria, LA. As a graduate of the nation’s only HBCU system, Southern University, and A&M College, Joseph earned his Bachelor of Science in Business-Marketing and his Juris Doctor from this illustrious institution. Joseph is passionate about connecting with communities from across the African diaspora, and this is evidenced by his various experiences. Joseph was a part of the inaugural cohort of the Garvey-Nkrumah fellowship program, which brought together students from the United States, the Caribbean, and Africa. During this robust fellowship, he was immersed in the various political, legal, and business mechanisms that shape communities around the world. The experience concluded with a delegation visit to Accra, Ghana, to meet with local officials, thought leaders, and stakeholders from several entities.

Joseph was also a legal fellow with the U.S. House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade. The experience with Ways and Means expanded his knowledge base and sharpened his business and political acumen. Trade and economic development are at the forefront of Joseph’s scholarly endeavors, and he is a firm believer that the use of progressive policy is the key to unlocking resources to benefit marginalized populations. Joseph is grateful for the opportunity to work with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and as a Foreign Policy fellow, he seeks to gain access to spaces that will best suit his qualifications. Outside of work, some of Joseph’s hobbies include collecting vinyl records, hiking, and traveling. He is also an avid New Orleans Saints and Pelicans fan. Joseph is a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and loves lending a hand to assist in community service projects. The future is promising for Joseph, and he is ready to take Washington D.C. and the world by storm!
